Welcome to America

Is anyone annoyed by the rant from the left on immigration? Every time I hear the horrible names they call conservatives I wish they'd just take a breath. I've been call a racist for being Republican. Really? So many thoughtful, considerate and balanced people have just come unglued with their words.

I guess for no other reason than mental therapy, it dawned on me to go witness a naturalization ceremony, presuming it would make me feel good about American and what a great and welcoming country it is. As you might have seen in past blogs, it's hard to find someone to join me. Fortunately my friend Tommy is always available. He's a bagger at Fry's and off on Fridays. Here's Tommy with Mrs. Justice when we arrived at 9:30 Friday at the Sandra Day O'Connor Federal Courthouse in downtown Phoenix. Didn't know she was so tall.

I haven't attended a naturalization since my friend Paul (God rest his soul) was naturalized from Canada 20 years ago, but I had an idea what to expect. It would be the emotional lift this racist needed and all Americans, particular all the haters on the left should see. Federal Justice David G. Campbell presided this morning over 61 candidates from 25 countries. This happens twice a day, four days per month. Here's the swearing in being read by the clerk and repeated by the candidates. It contains such wonderful words of freedom and liberty and obligation. All members of the armed services and veterans were asked to stand and be recognized. Four new Americans spoke at the ceremony. All had a similar perspective of joy and a long journey. Not so much the length of the naturalization process but the long life journey to this day in their life. A former Filipino woman was great but the woman formerly from Guadalajara Mexico was inspiring. Again, messages all the haters should here. Concluded with The Pledge of Allegiance rather than at the beginning for obvious reasons, then The Star Spangled Banner and ended with Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA. I was balling. Unfortunately Tommy's flag from the previous picture went over the railing mid ceremony. No one died. I got to shake a few hands and say "welcome" when we left. A great feeling. Tommy said..."Something different today for a change."

The Donald even made an appearance. Or as new Congresswoman Tlaib (D-MI) would say at her swearing in last month, "The Mother-fucker."  (I don't think she's been to the mosque in awhile)
Now before you rush judgment with her, let me say I've been to Detroit and I'm pretty sure MF is a greeting. Anyway, POTUS said today was going to be really really good, and maybe the best best day ever.

So here's the new faces of America you racists. I've grown to marvel at the liberal use of that hurtful word. You all should be hurt by someone trying to win votes with it.

Speaking of that, leaving we noticed Mrs. Obama was coming next week to make more money. Tommy said, "She's cute. I wouldn't mind her being my caregiver."

Finally did I mention it was Tommy's birthday today? 64. Robin got him a nice Day of the Dead Mask Globe. He loves anything scary or horror-ish. Nice job Robin. Unfortunately this too got dropped after lunch. Will find another.

So in closing, I'm reminded of my friend Chris Lane and the closing remark at her father's funeral. Presumably to capture what Dr. Joob was all about.

"Be nice to each other people."

Custer & The Indian Wars

CUSTER & THE INDIAN WARS   When I wrapped up a week in Gettysburg learning this and that about The Civil War, "what next?" was on my mind. Very quickly I thought about where some of the characters I'd just learned about had moved on to and the period of American history known as The Indian Wars was the obvious "next".  A quick Google search and I was brought to a British battlefield history tour company (The Cultural Experience) and a guided tour they do from time to time on the subject in Montana and Wyoming.  Two false starts with Covid over the last few years but in June it all came together. When you're flying to Billings Montana you can dress like a dude. Billings is actually a very nice town. The tour usually had us in the best hotels. Here's the world's tallest brick only building if you care. Is kind of interesting though. ...and an Elks Lodge of course. I didn't meet up with the g...

Go West

Did I mention how happy I am that Robin retired? With that act this past summer the time had come to see what being a snowbird is like. Scottsdale AZ won when Robin got bit by the "No See Ems" last winter in Florida. So on February 13th we drove west to Arizona picking up the Historic Route 66 in central Illinois for most of the way. I hope you all know about Mother Jones. Labor advocate for minors back in the day. Helped organize the United Mine Workers or something like that. I consider myself a pro-labor conservative of which I'm told there is no such thing. Anyway, here in Mount Olive Illinois is her resting place in the Union Miners Cemetery. Mother Jones Grave First night was downtown in St Louis, MO. Great dinner and a nice walk around the Old Courthouse enjoying the first feel of warm weather. Here's Dred Scott and his wife...Mrs. Scott I guess. Several years before the Civil War, Mr Scott's owner took him to free state MO for lunch where he...
